My Top Options

Each Thanksgiving season, we rent a large diesel powered freezer truck from our friends at Tiger Ice. We store an obscene amount of pie dough and ingredients like cherries and blueberries in there since we are stockpiling for next week.

Jason has noticed over the last week that the padlock securing the door had been tampered with during the night. This has spurred a lot of conversation amongst Team PJP about what exactly we would do if we arrived early in the morning and the entire unit was just gone or emptied out.

In no particular order, here is what I consider to be my top options:

  1. Arrive, find it missing, and immediately turn around and drive home and climb back in my bed. Avoidant, but not dramatic.

  2. Arrive, find it missing, and immediately drive to Interstate 70, pick a direction, and just never return for the Thanksgiving holiday. Avoidant and dramatic.

  3. Arrive, find it missing, and immediately drive to the Columbia Regional Airport and park for free and take the first flight to Chicago or Dallas. Be undeterred when it is delayed. Avoidant, dramatic, and indignant.

  4. Arrive, find it missing, and immediately call the police and file an insurance claim. Pragmatic, but exhausting. (Can you imagine explaining that mess to an insurance adjuster?)

  5. Arrive, find it missing, and immediately rally our social media following to locate 300 pounds of missing blueberries. I’m guessing whoever is interested in the contents is hopeful for Hyvee turkeys and hams or something more interested than individually quick frozen fruit. Dramatic, but interesting though the last way I would want PJP to go viral.
