Groundhog Day

Earlier today, I realized with some alarm that I’ve not said a single thing here in over a week. Everything is fine, but we are starting each day at 4 am and then finishing each day at 6 pm. Today I couldn’t even decide if it was Thursday or Friday and honestly, it doesn’t even matter because there is a lot to do every single day and our daily schedule has a whole Groundhog Day vibe. But here’s a recap of our latest news:

  1. If I ever decide again that a pie tasting on the Friday in the week before Christmas is a good idea, please drive over and beat me up. Six pages of pickups in both stores plus 400 tarts of our Best of 2023 in each store was an uphill battle today.

  2. And truthfully, that Best of 2023 was significantly more difficult than we planned. When Jason printed off the list of the winners of our 10 tasting this year, I didn’t even remember doing some of them. The winner of this tasting will likely be our Pie of the Month for January. (Unless it’s Lemon Pecan because you have to combine sugar and lemon juice and make a paste that goes in the bottom of the pie shell and I’m really terrible at that sort of tedious task. But my hands were so soft when I was finished because it’s basically a lemon sugar scrub and that’s lovely.)

  3. I’ve been fairly off the grid in our email box short of things that must be dealt with but I did see an email from The Kroenke Group because they didn’t have a rent yet (though, they did because they cashed it the same day the email was sent). And I sorta wanted to respond and say that we didn’t have a new back door at Nifong yet or a back sidewalk cleared of cigarette butts and Subway wrappers, so I guess we are all wishing for things. Ahem. And also they had their checks and we don’t have a back door that works properly at Nifong, so…

  4. It’s likely we will close holiday pie orders for next Friday and Saturday within the next few days. The data is more Jason’s territory and he’s been just as busy as I have, so I think decision fatigue is hitting us both hard. At any rate, I am certain that we won’t leave the form open until 5 pm on Thursday like normal, so order soon. (Also the last day to order for shipping is Monday by 4 pm CST for holiday delivery.)

  5. And I certainly don’t want the universe to think we are aren’t thankful for being this busy, because we certainly are. I know there’s being tired from being busy and then there’s tired from being worried about not being busy and I’ll always take the former over the latter. Plus, we all know in January that I’ll be the very first to have a fit that we are starting at 8 am and nothing interesting is happening. Apparently that’s when I should schedule pie tastings.
